First Congregational Church is displaying seven panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt in honor of the 24th Anniversary of our vote to be an Open & Affirming church. The quilts will be on display at First Congregational UCC from:
Thursday, October 6 1:00pm-7:00pm
Friday, October 7 1:00pm-7:00pm
Saturday, October 8 3:00pm-6:00pm
Sunday, Ocotber 9 12:00pm- 4:00pm
There are two opportunities to worship with us during this time. A Service of Remembrance on Friday, October 7 following the viewing hours at 7:00pm and on Sunday at 10:00am for our Opening and Affirming Sunday Worship service.
“…(over the years) so many panels have been added that it is no longer feasible to display all of the quilt. Just consider that it weighs 54 tons and represents 96,000 lives lost. Viewing just a small portion of the quilt does not diminish the impact of ‘experiencing’ the quilt first hand and reflecting on how much more needs to be done to shut down this epidemic.” – Jeanne Marshall
