Forward Theater Company will debut its upcoming season with the 2013 Pulitzer Prize finalist 4000 Miles, by Amy Herzog. This earnest and humorous play will be presented in the Playhouse at Overture Center, November 3 – 20.

Free-spirited 21-year-old Leo sets off from the West Coast on an epic cross-country bike adventure. By the time he shows up at his grandmother Vera’s New York City apartment, his journey has taken some unexpected turns. Leo hopes for a short-term escape from the chain of events that has left him estranged from his family and friends. But as days turn into weeks, he and Vera bond over love, loss, and the difficulties of growing up and growing old. With both humor and heartbreak, the play takes an intimate look at the road to self-acceptance everyone must travel and the unexpected connections made along the way.

“I am thrilled to begin our eighth season with a play that so perfectly reflects how we live now,” said FTC’s Artistic Director, Jennifer Uphoff Gray. “4000 Miles hilariously and earnestly explores the challenges of finding cross-generational connections between two very lonely people at very different stages of their lives. It has inspired us to think about how we might seek out — and even facilitate — such relationships here in our community.”
