The Madison Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will offer a free Hymn Sing to the public in Overture Hall, 201 State Street, Sat., Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. All ages are welcome to join in singing hymns with music provided live on the Overture Concert Organ.
No tickets or reservations are needed for the free Hymn Sing, which will last approximately 45 minutes.
Deborah Krauss Smith, organist and music director for various congregations in Monroe, Eau Claire and Madison for over forty years, will lead the hymn sing on the Overture Concert Organ. A vocal music education graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Deb has a double applied major in both organ and voice.
With a gift from the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation, the Madison Symphony Orchestra commissioned the Overture Concert Organ, which is the stunning backdrop of all MSO concerts. MSO Principal Organist, Samuel Hutchison, programs and curates this instrument. In addition to the Free Farmers’ Market Concerts, the Overture Concert Organ is featured in the annual MSO Christmas concert Dec. 5-7 along with several Free Community Hymn Sings and a Christmas Carol Sing. See details for all organ performances at www.madisonsymphony.org/organperformances.
Support for all Overture Concert Organ programs is provided by the Diane Endres Ballweg Fund. For more information, please contact the MSO at (608) 257-3734 or email info@madisonsymphony.org
