Madison’s renowned Edvard Grieg Chorus will perform a special concert on behalf of Idun Lodge-Sons of Norway. Delicious Norwegian goodies and beverages will be served. All proceeds will help to cover recent unexpected expenses incurred by the Lodge. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience the fabulous vocal talents of the Grieg Chorus in an intimate setting and help Idun Lodge at the same time! For more info contact Dee at 259-1958.
The Edvard Grieg Chorus was founded in 1925 as the Grieg Mannskor (Grieg Men’s Chorus). It takes its name from the famous Norwegian composer, and many of his compositions are included in their repertoire. Although the Chorus has since gone through several name changes, its purpose has remained the same as that of the founding group of Norwegian immigrants: To preserve and share the choral music and traditions they brought with them from Norway. Although singing Norwegian songs has been the primary focus of the Chorus, sacred and secular songs are also included in its program, which varies depending on the time of year.
Idun Lodge-Sons of Norway promotes and preserves the heritage and culture of Norway through its programs, special events, classes and scholarships. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month (except July and December), beginning with an optional potluck dinner at 6:30pm, followed by an interesting and informative program at 7:15. Everyone is welcome; you do not have to be a member – or even have any Norwegian heritage – to attend.
