In the face of adversity, artists can capture truths, transforming hurt into healing.
“Galería de Arte del Pueblo” displays the work of Wisconsin-based and international artists. Featured artists include Ashley Robertson, Richie Morales, Malcolm Bracey and Kelly ParksSnider. Robertson, a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland, centers her art around the lived experiences of Black women. Robertson founded West Label Art in 2015 to provide a platform for emerging multimedia artists to network and develop their craft. Morales hails from Antigua Guatemala. Morales uses his art to explore the intersections of the past, present, and future.
Malcolm Bracey is a Madison-based artist. The Overture Center’s recent exhibition, “The Fresh Perspective Art Collective,” featured Bracey’s work. Kelly Parks-Snider describes her work as, “explor[ing] contemporary social, political and cultural issues through the arts.” Snider is the CoFounder of “Project Girl,” is a non-profit dedicated to providing youth with opportunities to combine art, media literacy, activism, and education.
“Gallery of the People” is hosted by Forward Community Investments (FCI) and Intellectual Ratchet (IR). FCI is a statewide organization committed to helping residents thrive socially and economically. IR is a Madison-based startup that specializes in creating urban entertainment experiences aimed at diverse millennials. FCI will provide drinks and desserts, catered by Madison’s newest soul food restaurant, Sweet Tea. Musician Skylar Nahn will entertain guests while they enjoy the art and learn about FCI’s current initiatives.
