Wisconsin’s first EarthWise Pet Supply opens in Madison

Madison, WI – August 14, 2017 – EarthWise Pet Supply today announced they will officially open for business Saturday, August 19 in the Shorewood Shopping Center at 3260 University Avenue in Madison. Tim Hagen and Jeff Clark, who live in the nearby Vilas neighborhood, are the owners of the new holistically-focused pet supply shop and are bringing the growing national franchise to Wisconsin for the first time.

With an emphasis on reputable natural pet foods, EarthWise Pet Supply will offer nationally-recognized, leading brands including Fromm (Wisconsin-based), NutriSource (Minnesota-based), Stella & Chewy’s (Wisconsin-based) and more. In addition, the store will feature a full range of pet supplies and accessories including treats, toys, and collars and leashes. Proven national brands will be featured alongside locally-sourced items products such as collars, doggie bowties and collar flowers from Waupun-based Paws Up Petgear. The store is currently working to source additional specialty accessories and treats from other local vendors, as well.

Hagen and Clark became interested in pet nutrition when their beloved Beagle, Dolce, died unexpectedly at age eight. Dolce started his day normally but became sluggish and eventually unable to walk over the course of one afternoon. Hagen and Clark took him to an emergency pet clinic and discovered he had tumors in his abdomen and was bleeding internally. Surgery was a distant possibility, but the vet felt Dolce was unlikely to make it through the night. That evening, they made the agonizing decision to put him to sleep. In working with their veterinarian to try to understand and process what happened to Dolce, they started to learn more about the important role nutrition plays in pet health.

Though they were both working in other industries at the time, their journey with Dolce and their love of pets led them to start exploring other opportunities.

“We wanted to put more time and energy into doing something we loved, and to provide something valuable to people in the community at the same time,” says Hagen. “We discovered EarthWise Pet Supply and the more we learned about the company and its offerings the more excited we got. There is a huge population of pet lovers in Madison, like us, and we’re thrilled to be bringing them high-quality, respected natural pet food brands to help keep their pets as healthy as possible.”

The success and rapid growth of EarthWise Pet Supply has proven there is significant demand for higher quality pet products. At the start of 2017, there were 44 locations nationwide. By the end of this year, approximately 15 more – including the Shorewood Hills location –  are slated to open.

In addition to serving as a full service pet supply store, EarthWise Pet Supply offers complete grooming services and a self-wash station for pets. Customers will often be greeted by Siena, a one-year-old Bassett and Labrador (Bassador) mix Hagen and Clark adopted with the help of Fetch, a local rescue organization. Siena’s official title is EarthWise “AmBassador.”

When the store’s doors open August 19, EarthWise will also launch long-term community partnerships with Fetch, OccuPaws, Underdog Pet Rescue, Golden Rule and other local groups. Each partner organization will get EarthWise “Donor Dollars” to handout, which offer a $5 or $10 discount for the customer using it and earn the charity organization a donation of 10% of the total sale.

The store will celebrate its official grand opening with a series of special events and promotions the weekend of October 7. Follow the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/EarthWisePetMadison/ for updates.

EarthWise Pet Supply is open Monday through Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm. The store can be reached at(608) 284-9007, and more information is available online at EarthWisePet.com/Madison.
