Arts + Literature Laboratory successfully competed for one of 55 grants from the Madison Arts Commission this year. The MAC is the City Commission with a 2016/2017 budget of $107,000.00 for grant funding from the Cities Operating Budget. This amount includes a matching grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board.

This grant will support our Professional Development Series for Writers, which includes monthly craft talks and write-ins. Upcoming craft talk topics include finding your writing community, writing prompts, storytelling, writing for young adults, and how to write an effective ending. Write-ins provide two hours of writing in the supportive and inspiring atmosphere of the ALL gallery and occur on the first Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 9 PM.

The Madison Arts Commission exists to make the arts an essential part of the lives of all of Madison’s citizens; it fosters an appreciation for the arts through initiating partnerships, develops new audiences, and sponsors diverse artistic activities by emerging and established artists and arts organizations while preserving Madison’s rich artistic tradition.

The Wisconsin Arts Board is the State agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes the arts, supports the arts in education, stimulates community and economic development, and serves a resource for people of every culture and heritage in Wisconsin’s communities. The WAB’s grants to arts organizations help make programs available to broad audiences, keep ticket prices down and allow groups to undertake innovative programming.

Madison is home to hundreds of artists and organizations who are vital to the City’s cultural richness. The MAC is committed to supporting their creative talent. Artists and organizations who receive grants for their projects guarantee public access to their exhibitions, events, and performances so the public can see the results of its investment firsthand.

Thanks to the City’s investment, cultural resources like Arts + Literature Laboratory are integral to the quality of life in Madison.
