Due to the current climate and the recent decision about Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Centro Hispano of Dane County has worked with its partners, supporters and friends to make this event FREE and open to the public.
The first 200 registered guests will receive tickets at check-in for three dishes by local chefs that are inspired by the artwork and accompany the exhibition. Tickets are running out so claim yours soon!
Centro Hispano of Dane County and a broad coalition of community organizations and groups, including Voces de la Frontera and the Latino Consortium for Action, will be actively working on a number of specific actions to respond to the recent development regarding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The federal government’s actions are unacceptable. As such we are focusing our efforts now on ensuring that we are providing support to our staff and community — those directly impacted –while providing accurate information about the recent decision. One of the ways we are doing this is by making the Evening of Dreaming at Centro a FREE event that is open to the public. Registration is required — see below for details. Donations strongly appreciated.
ABOUT THE EVENT:
ALL guests will enjoy:
- The temporary An Evening for Dreamers exhibition
- Live music
- Canapes in Centro’s garden and desserts in Centro’s plaza
- Participatory art
- Cash Bar
The first 200 registered guests will also receive tickets at check-in for three dishes by local chefs that are inspired by the artwork on display and accompany the exhibition.
EVENT DESCRIPTION:
Join us in celebrating and supporting Centro while enjoying art, food and music before our agency is completely transformed by a Design for a Difference makeover in October. VEA Events is working with us to create a visual, edible, and audible experience in Centro’s space to spark conversation and engage the community in response to the recent decisions surrounding DACA. The exhibition will bring together Madison’s Latino community and our supporters to explore immigration, Latinx culture, and Centro’s unique home through visual and culinary art.
The open house style event allows visitors to arrive whenever they’d like to enjoy the creations of local chefs and artists. Featured visual and culinary art collaborations (dishes available to first 200 registrants only) will be presented by:
- David Rodriguez of Melted Food Truck and INTL Food Truck with muralist Rodrigo Carapia
- Armando Sandoval of Bassett Street Brunch Club with video and neon artist Carlos Gacharna
- Giovanni Novella of Cento and Fresco with installation artist and Guild member Pete Hodapp
Additional culinary bites, visual art, and performance will be presented by Sujhey Beisser of Five Senses Palate food blog, Mallory Shotwell, Luisa Garcia Gomez, Leticia Castillo, Erica Pinigis of Scratch Dance, Leigh Garcia, and Adriana Barrios.
All proceeds from An Evening of Dreaming benefit Centro Hispano of Dane County’s programs and support our mission of empowering youth, strengthening families and engaging the community.
