HOUSE RULES is a semi-regular series at Crucible, hosted by DJ Millbot (aka Emily Mills), that features local and touring house music DJs, with a special focus on underrepresented identities. This is an ask-first, no-harassment, no BS dance space.

DJ Alice Clark bio:

Persistence and exploration… two constants that have proven essential in helping Alice reach her current destination point. With a penchant true to the deeper, dubbier strains of the groove-driven micro-house realm, such a realisation has now sparked her determination to make her own mark on a genre made famous by her Romanian influences.

A regular on dance floors throughout her university years, it took very little persuasion for Alice to transform her passion into her profession. She soon taught herself the art of DJing following an inspired trip to Ibiza at just 17-years-old. After months of dedication, self-discipline and self-taught production, Alice soon started turning heads on her local scene playing out gigs local to her home in Kent. It wasn’t long then until she caught the attention of the UK capital and was asked to perform at the notorious fabric in London, Pacha and Basing House.

A view through the Alice Clark lens, during the summer of 2011, sees her inspiration and determination drive the Kent native to embark upon her first long-term stay on the White Isle at the age of 18. Labelled by DJ Mag as “One to watch, a rising star in Ibiza”, her journey in the Balearics has thus far seen her captivate the likes of Sankeys and Pacha Ibiza. Whilst she is in debt to Ibiza for lighting the flame for her to pursue a career in music, she also owes a lot of credit to her time spent in the States. Having visited the USA since the tender age of 12-years-old, Alice has made a habit of using the seasonal nature of the Ibiza lifestyle to her advantage. Allowing her change of environment to inspire, focus on studio time and making her mark on the electronic music in thriving cities across the continent.

Having spent some serious quality time in the last year honing her craft, Alice has finally found a sound that truly resonates with her. Shining a light towards the deeper, dubbier shades of groove-driven micro-house, the Ibiza resident has found comfort and confidence through dance-floor focused breakdowns and sweeping bouncy modular chord sequences. “I’ve spent a lot of time in the studio, over the last year especially, and applying what I was inspired by over the summer to what I’m currently making. Hearing artists like Mihai Popoviciu, Archie Hamilton and Premiesku play in particular really resonated with me.”

Looking to her productions ; Autumn 2017 saw Alice release her ‘Traverse’ EP, which was snapped up by Cyclic Records, an output reflecting of her Romanian counterparts. Keeping up momentum she kicked off 2018 with her Motivez single on OBlack, closely followed by her ‘Egotist’ EP on Decay Records which made serious waves exploring the more stripped-back spectrum of her sound. Featuring both James Dexter and Mihai Popoviciu on remix duties. Such a collaborative effort saw the release peak at Number 1 respectively in the Beatport & Traxsource Top 100 Minimal Charts. Summer 2018 saw Alice unveil her second EP release with Cyclic Records entitled ‘Vibrational’ featuring a remix from Toman, which was chased up by a collaboration with Fe.ht on the highly respected Get Physical Music. Arguably making 2018 a year of her strongest outputs to date. Managing her to accumulate support from an impressive list of names including Archie Hamilton, Traumer, Toman, Cinthie, Niko Maxen, Julien Sandre, Rhadow, James Dexter, Chad Andrew to name but a few. Plus notably avid support from the meca BBC Radio 1, through them hand-picking Alice to play live and recorded on their stage at Creamfields 2017.

Following a succession of strong releases through the summer of 2018 in Ibiza, Alice attracted attention from some of the island’s leading underground meccas including appearances at DC10 Ibiza and a return to familiar territory at Sankeys Ibiza for a guest slot with The Oth3rs crew. In addition to this, she also branched out to Barcelona to make her Off-Sonar debut last June.

Unrelenting on her global journey, defined by her own unique sonic palate, Alice’s presence on the international circuit continues to grow into April 2019 with a headline tour in Romania confirmed across multiple cities including Cluj Napoca, Craoiva and more. Elsewhere on the horizon, Alice will return to the White Isle for a 10th consecutive summer where she will continue to hone her craft in the studio crafting new releases, respected collaborations and securing further exciting bookings around the world.

Stay tuned.
