The annual Latino Art Fair, organized and sponsored by the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County in partnership with Overture Center for the Arts, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The event, in its sixth year, celebrates the rich roots of Latino art in culture. Artists from throughout South-Central Wisconsin will exhibit and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry, music and more.

“We are truly excited to present such a wide range of artists from all walks of life at this year’s Latino Art Rair,” said The Latino Chamber of Commerce (LCC) President, Jessica Cavazos. “The [LCC] is grateful to have a wonderful partnership with Overture Center, which allows us the opportunity to showcase these talented artists and their mediums as a platform to display how art can unify, impact and help communities evolve. The art fair this year will be the place for families to see and invest in our Arte-entrepreneurs, as well as see a perspective on immigration from the eyes of the immigrant. This will definitely be the place to be on Saturday!”

Happening in tandem with the fair are live music, spoken word art by and a special art exhibit.

Overture’s Galleries: Special Exhibition | Wednesday, Sept. 12-Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 | Rotunda Gallery | FREE

Immigration is nothing new. In fact, it has historically been a fundamental part of the human experience. Yet, today much of immigration is the unrecognized harvest of past colonialism, ongoing wars, as well as current demands and lure of modernity. The artists presenting works in Immigration X explore some of the contemporary Latinx experience of displacement, diaspora, nomadism and dehumanization in the United States.

Synapses is a group of Latinx artists collaborating on projects focused on social justice to impact the community.
Members: Juan de Hoyos, Evelyn Galindo, Richie Morales, Andy Villanueva

Listen Local: Golpe Tierra | Saturday, Oct. 6 from 6-8 p.m. | Promenade Hall

The irresistible acoustic groove of Golpe Tierra bases its sound on the philosophy that, when we come together in music and dance to “beat the earth,” we are truly celebrating the act of community. Nick Moran, Juan Tomas Martinez, Tony Barba, and Richard Hildner make up this guerrilla-style ensemble, employing the traditional Afro-Peruvian guitar-bass-cajón set-up. The group embarks on a musical journey throughout Latin-America, flirting with blues, jazz, and shades of soul. This uniquely-presented original and traditional music is sure to get you out of your seat to dance!

Spoken Word Art: Araceli Esparza | Saturday, Oct. 6 from 6:45-7:15 p.m. | Promenade Hall

All events associated with the 2018 Latino Art Fair, held during National Hispanic Heritage Month, are free and open to the public.
