The Madison Early Music Festival (MEMF) runs from July 9-16 with the theme of Shakespeare 400: An Elizabethan Celebration. Madisonearlymusic.org
It is internationally recognized as a top early music festival that features music from Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque eras from award winning performers and distinguished faculty. MEMF is presented by UW–Madison Arts Institute in collaboration with campus partner UW-Madison School of Music, and is an Affiliate Partner of Shakespeare in Wisconsin 2016.
Commemorating the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and celebrating the glorious 45-year reign of Queen Elizabeth I, MEMF 2016 celebrates the musical legacy of these two titans in a full week of Elizabethan history and culture through concerts, lectures, films, classes and dances with some of the world’s finest artists.
Featured concert artists include New York Polyphony, The Newberry Consort, The Baltimore Consort and “Sonnets 400” with musicians Grant Herreid, Priscilla Herreid and Charles Weaver along with local actor Michael Herold.
Most concerts are $25 ($10 for students). All lectures are free. Please see website for all the events.
