Have you heard of Mineral Point? Many have for its historic buildings, wonderful shops, lively arts scene, and its history. But few know about daily life in this rural community. Those of us who live here are accustomed to a sense of acceptance that few towns of this size ever see.
It began in the 1930s. At the height of the Great Depression, with many of the old structures falling from neglect, a couple of gentlemen—Bob Neal and Edgar Hellum—purchased some properties on historic Shake Rag Alley and preserved several of the old Cornish laborers’ cottages. They went on to live in one of the restored buildings and operated another cottage as an extremely popular nationally-recognized restaurant and Inn. This has become one of the most popular historical destinations in Southwest Wisconsin—Pendarvis.
Since those days it has become a natural part of the fabric of the community to accept everyone, no matter who they are or who they love. As a small city we lack the full diversity of cultures that comes with a larger population. But, we have developed a community that is built on respect, acceptance and friendship. And now, we are excited to announce our first ever Pride celebration in Mineral Point.
The party starts at noon on June 24th, 2017 at the Tequila Point restaurant located at 43 High Street. There will be outdoor food, music and entertainment all day. Drag shows will take place at 5 and 9 p.m., with an indoor dance party following
