From the artist:
A smart man once called me big headed. Since then, I have created my concept of “Big Heads:” I use materials at my immediate disposal, such as cardboard, old landscape paintings, wood, and other natural “canvas,” and mask the basic material with arcilics, painting in layers to create a fictional, distorted, primative image of the human form.
My methods are quick, creating in short spurts of time, with no focus on perfection of the whole rather focus on each painted segment as an individual expression of emotion. The “Big Heads” mirror my scattered thinking, my ego, and my fast-paced perspective on daily life, resulting in a still image of my fleeting thoughts and emotions.
I find inspiration from works of art by Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Modigliani, as well as street art from the various places I have visited. I am a native of Racine, WI, but studied art in Milwaukee, lived near Phoenix, AZ, and have traveled across the country, exploring the art and music scenes. I am happy to call Madison my home with its strong presence of creativity and expression, and am happy to be a part of the growing art community.
