This talk with Dr. Stephanie Budge will focus on how the mental health profession constructs gender identities and how trans people experience this construction. Narratives and dialogues from trans and gender non-conforming individuals will be infused throughout the talk to provide multiple viewpoints on balancing the utility of working within the mental health care system versus actively denouncing being pathologized. A gendered analysis of how masculinity and femininity interact within diagnoses will be provided, as well as examples of how individuals within the system work together to deconstruct these disorders.

This talk will take place at L138 in the Education Building at UW-Madison.
