Dear Members and Friends of Milwaukee LGBT Community Center:

The Annual Meeting of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center will be Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the Community Room.

Four positions are available on the Center’s Board of Directors and may be filled at the upcoming meeting. The Governance Committee has accepted suggestions from Center members and submitted a slate to the current Board. The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the following candidates:

Paul Williams is a current Co-President of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center Board of Directors. Paul manages communications for the Housing Authority, a leading provider of housing & neighborhood development services. He serves as a statewide board director of the ACLU-Wisconsin, a volunteer reviewer for the United Way of Greater Milwaukee, and a member of the Milwaukee LGBT History Project. Paul has served in previous leadership positions with PrideFest, Human Rights League Political Action Committee (HRL-PAC), Milwaukee Domestic Partnership Task Force and the Board of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center in the early 2000’s.

Martin Palicki currently serves as Secretary of the Center’s Board of Directors. Martin publishes a trade journal for the theme park, water park and museum market and is a frequent contributor to other industry publications. He owns his own business and has served on the Center’s Board since 2012. He also has served on the International Board of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA). Martin is a novice triathlete and enjoys traveling to exciting destinations around the world.

Kass Hume currently serves as a member of the Board. An attorney serving the LGBT community in estate planning and family matters for 26 years, Kass was a legislative analyst for the State Department of Health and Human Services. She was also a former Associate Director of Project Management which involved Protective Services for the elderly in Milwaukee’s inner city. Kass was a recipient of the 1996 Human Rights League, Cream City Brick Torch Bearer Award.

Rick Derksen is Vice President and a Director of Human Resources for Fidelity Information Services (FIS). Before joining FIS, Rick worked as the Recruiting Manager for US Bank. Rick holds a degree from the University of South Florida. Rick is a member of the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) and he also has volunteered at ARCW and Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee. Rick and his partner, Bradley Fell, live with their dogs Tubbs and Jaxx. This will be his first term on the Center Board.

In accordance with the Center’s bylaws, we will accept nominations for alternative candidates until February 20, 2015. Nominations must be emailed to director@mkelgbt.org with the following information:

1) Name of Person Nominating;
2) Name of Nominee;
3) Email address of Nominee
4) Phone number of Nominee
5) Reasons that the Nominee would be a good addition to the Board of Directors.

Only members whose dues are current (paid within the last 12 months) may vote in the election.

If you are not a member, we invite you to join the Center by visiting the Center’s website, mailing your dues in, or stopping by the Center to pay in person.
