MADISON, WI –The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art will inspire giving at the 44th annual Holiday Art Fair, taking place the weekend before Thanksgiving, November 21 to 23, 2014. With new and returning exhibitors, features, entertainers, and fine craft—including graceful hand-turned wood bowls and serving sets inlaid with turquoise from Kent & Jenna Haugaard; spicy local charcuterie from Underground Meats; performances by All That Jazz Quintet and Kanopy Dance Company; and fragrant wreathes from Fresh Evergreens—this fair promises to engage all of the senses.

Favorite traditions return such as the Friday preview luncheon, Silent Auction, Gourmet Galleries, Rediscovered Art & Treasures Sale, and performances by local arts organizations. Savvy shoppers can pre-shop the fair using the online Gift Guide showcasing handpicked items under $50 for the Fashion Forward, Nature Lover, Foodie, Vintage Collector, Romantic, Color Lover, and even the Eclectic. New this year, fair goers will enjoy a beautiful selection of hand-tied wreathes and swag from Fresh Evergreen, café offerings from the award-winning Fromagination, specialty coffees from Roast Coffee Catering, a crafting table with fun for the whole family, and over 20 artists new to the fair.

Holiday Art Fair presents shoppers with a rare occasion to enjoy holiday shopping by indulging themselves, purchasing beautiful gifts, and contributing to a valued community arts organization. This event is a significant fundraiser for the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Holiday Art Fair is also a driver of the local economy, drawing people to downtown Madison for shopping and dining, while providing a marketplace for local artists.

Holiday Art Fair will again take place throughout the gorgeous spaces of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and Overture Center for the Arts. Over 85 exhibitors will participate, including more than 75 artists and a number of gourmet food vendors from Wisconsin. Exhibiting artists will travel to the fair from throughout the United States and Canada.

EVENT DETAILS

Hours and Admission
Doors to the 2014 Holiday Art Fair open to the public at 2:30 pm on Friday, November 21. Fair hours are:
Friday, November 21 ∙ 2:30–7 pm
Saturday, November 22 ∙ 10 am–5 pm
Sunday, November 23 ∙ 10 am–3 pm

Admission to the fair is $6; children under 12 are free. A key fundraiser for the museum, the fair supports MMoCA’s free exhibitions and education programs year-round.

Artists: the Heart of the Fair
To ensure a range of high quality art and craft, artists exhibiting at the 2014 Holiday Art Fair were jury-chosen from over 200 applicants. Among the works available to shoppers are jewelry, clocks, clothing and accessories, and fine craft objects, as well as paintings, prints, and photographs. Participating artists demonstrate sophisticated skill across a variety of media.
Marzena Weber creates wearable art pieces that are abstract and nature-inspired with an emphasis on color and texture.
Photographer emerson Matable has traveled the world for nearly 20 years taking candid images; his photographs capture and esteem people living in foreign lands.
Handblown glass vases by artist Richard Jones, with shapes derived from classical and ancient ceramics, particularly Chinese ceramics, will be presented in an array of colors.
Artist and designer Teresa DeVer’s jewelry is hand fabricated by forging and manipulating silver and gold metals; the resulting wire sculpted jewelry and woven and crocheted chains are stunning.

Artist Preview and a New Gift Guide
Savvy shoppers will appreciate the Gift Guide, found in the Holiday Art Fair section of mmoca.org, with handpicked gifts under $50 for many types: the Fashion Forward, Nature Lovers, Foodies, Vintage Collectors, Romantics, Color Lovers, and even the Eclectic. Art and craft lovers can also preview works by all of the participating artists and create their own must-have lists in advance of the fair at mmoca.org, under Holiday Art Fair.

Two Gourmet Food Galleries
The 2014 Holiday Art Fair will offer two Gourmet Galleries with a wide selection of delicacies from Wisconsin vendors, including tastes from around the world brought to you by the National Mustard Museum; the product of busy local honeybees from Mad Urban Bees; and indulgent treats from the Chocolatarian Café and Christine’s Gourmet Toffee. This is a can’t-miss opportunity to sample delectable treats and purchase gifts for all of the locavores and gourmands on your holiday list.

Silent Auction and Once-Loved Treasures
A visit to the silent auction is also a great way to preview works and determine a personal list of must-see booths at the fair. Shoppers at Holiday Art Fair can bid on donated works from exhibiting artists, and perhaps find a bargain in the process. Auction revenue supports the museum’s free community programs.

Beautiful abstract as well as lovely figurative paintings, framed prints, stylish home décor, and lustrous jade jewelry are a few of the items that will be available at this year’s Rediscovered Art & Treasures Sale. Always a crowd pleaser, the sale offers a treasure–trove of donated original art, jewelry, small antiques, decorative art, prized collectibles, books and other “pre-loved” items.

Preview Luncheon and Accessories Fashion Show
A chic and stylish fashion show, presided over by special guest Kristin Erickson, founder of BRAVA Magazine, will dazzle and entice guests at the Preview Luncheon. With a wine bar and welcome kicking off the event at noon on Friday, November 21, luncheon guests are sure to enjoy the delicious food, warm conversation, and the lively runway show benefiting MMoCA. On view will be new trends in artist-made jewelry, luxurious scarves, and other handmade, wearable art, followed by exclusive Holiday Art Fair preview shopping for luncheon guests only.

Tickets may be purchased by calling 257-0158 x230. Individual tickets are $50 and a table of 8 is $400. For additional information, visit Holiday Art Fair on mmoca.org.
