Perfect Harmony Men’s Chorus of Madison presents “A Winter Evening” Choral Concert

by | Dec 5, 2017 | 0 comments

Perfect Harmony Men’s Chorus will hold its annual winter concert on December 8 & 10, 2017, titled “A Winter Evening”.  A combination of a capella and accompanied pieces from across the centuries will give warmth to this time of year.
Artistic Director Kevin Hage has selected not only traditional Christmas carols such as “Silent Night” and “Sleigh Ride”, but also modernized versions of “The Holly and the Ivy” and  “Oh! Christmas Tree???”.  “One Light” celebrates the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah.
A frosty evening (Frost-y, even!) is imagined in a musical setting of “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Randall Thompson. And to continue that warm feeling of a winter evening spent fireside with a book, “A Country Boy in Winter” takes its playful yet contemplative lyrics from from the nineteenth-century poet Sarah Orne Jewett, with music composed by gay composer Greg Bartholomew. Twentieth-century poets Sara Teasdale and James Agee provide the words to two somewhat more serious pieces with deep harmonies.
And what would a “Sleigh Ride” be without “Sleigh Bells”? Some fast-paced pieces, a chant, and a round “round out” the program.  Perfect Harmony‘s outreach ensemble, Common Chords, will also perform two a capella pieces.
Advanced tickets are $15 and can be purchased from members of the chorus or online at www.PerfectHarmonyChorus.org
Tickets at the door will be $20.
