Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Monday, August 29, 2016 — Proud Theater Milwaukee and Proud Theater Beyond – Milwaukee announce they are currently enrolling youth and young adults for their 2016/2017 seasons, beginning on September 18, 2016. Proud Theater – Milwaukee and Proud Theater Beyond – Milwaukee are geared toward young people who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning+), come from families with LGBTQ+ parents or guardians, or who are allied with the LGBTQ+ community in general with an eye for social justice.

Rehearsals for both groups will be held on Sundays during the school year at the LGBT Community Center, 1110 North Market Street, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Proud Theater Beyond – Milwaukee will meet from 11am to 1:30pm, and Proud Theater – Milwaukee will follow at 2pm to 4:30pm. To enroll, interested people need only contact the Proud Theater organization by phone at 608-222-9086, by e-mail (info@proudtheater.org), or by simply going to a Sunday rehearsal. Open enrollment for both groups ends November 27, 2017.
The two groups serve different age ranges. Proud Theater – Milwaukee is designed for youth 13-18 years old, and is moving into its 4th season, having just completed its first-ever show, ‘Proud Theater – Milwaukee: Gay-ly Forward’ in August of 2016. Proud Theater Beyond – Milwaukee is new to the area and is designed for young adults who are out of High School and between the ages of 18 and 24 years old.
Founded in 1999, the Proud Theater organization is an award-winning, exciting, and innovative youth and young adult theater program whose mission is ‘to change the world through the power of theater and the theater arts, and to make a positive difference in the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth through the tenets of art, heart, and activism’. Empowering and creative, the organization encourages young people to share their personal stories through the creation of original theatrical works, which they then present to the community at large throughout the school year. Traditionally, the group ends each season with a culminating showcase production. The 2017 culminating performances are to be determined.
The Milwaukee chapter is currently looking for local artists and community activists to become mentors and volunteers with the Milwaukee chapters. Training is provided.  For more info on how to become a volunteer for Proud Theater in the Milwaukee area, write to Proud Theater at info@proudtheater.org, or contact Proud Theater Executive Director Brian Wild at (608) 222-9086.
Proud Theater – Milwaukee and Proud Theater Beyond – Milwaukee are partnered with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center and is a program of Art and Soul Innovations (artandsoulinnovations.org). The organization enjoys generous financial support from the Mukti Fund (muktifund.com), the Joan L. and Robert C. Gilkison Family Foundation, and many community members and organizations from around the state.
Tax-deductible donations to the Proud Theater – Milwaukee groups can be sent to: Proud Theater, PO Box 6306, Monona WI, 53716, or via PayPal at www.proudtheater.org.
