Sunday Bumday! Burlesque Revue open burlesque show coming to the Nomad

by | May 19, 2017 | 0 comments

The newly opened Nomad World Pub (formerly the Cardinal Bar) in Madison is pleased to host a new, regular burlesque revue, every third Sunday and featuring a wide variety of brand new, up-and-coming, and established talent from across the city and beyond.

Co-hosts Marina Mars and Mama No Shits tell us a bit about the production:

We, as a production team, look for the weirdest weird and you-est you in terms of who we bring to our show. Each show will be unique and open to everyone. Whether people have been on stage for 20 years or never at all, we’re here for everyone. We are open to all variety of performance. The only substance we ask for is something with intention and forethought. This show is meant to promote love, inclusivity, and individuality. Sunday Bumday! Burlesque Revue will be every third Sunday at the Nomad World Pub in Madison, Wisconsin starting at 7 p.m. Our first show will be in July, and will continue every month afterwards.

We chose the Nomad for many reasons. The Nomad was originally the Cardinal. The Cardinal was one of the longest running bars/clubs in Madison, and ran for 42 years. It was recently sold to the Nomad, which is a family run business out of Milwaukee. The owner believes that anyone from anywhere should feel welcome. That is exactly what we looked for when producing our monthly show. The Nomad’s mantra is to “Travel the world from our bar stool.” The Cardinal was known to be the international hub of the city for decades before its transition. The international flavor of the Cardinal continues through the Nomad’s spirit. Lili, the general manger of the Nomad, feels strongly about empowering the patrons through the staff. We fully believe in Lili’s vision, plan on seeing it through, and will showcase this sentiment in our production.

Recently, we were lucky enough to be sponsored by Lakefront Brewery, a Wisconsin brewery based out of Milwaukee. They reached out to us in hopes of doing a collaborative project, affectionately known as “brewlesque,” showcasing their local brews through the performers that grace the stage.

We are hoping to bring more love and positivity into this already flourishing community of artists, dancers, and Madisonians. We want to provide a safe space that is inclusive, unique, and honestly fun. We want to be the reprieve from ordinary life and bring something extraordinary to nourish the lives of our neighbors.
