Urban League of Greater Madison Board Chair, Nia Trammell, has been appointed to the City of Madison Police and Fire Commission (PFC.) The Madison Common Council approved Trammel’s appointment at the July 21st meeting.

The PFC functions as a personnel board for the police and fire departments, with defined responsibilities in the hiring, promotions, and disciplinary processes. Commissioners serve rotating 5-year terms. Per their website the commission ” Appoints the chief of each department; approves or disapproves promotions and supervision of the hiring process, with certification of an eligibility list and approval of those who are finally hired; holds hearings on disciplinary matters brought to its attention either directly or through appeal and imposes discipline if appropriate.”

The Commission is made up of five members. Other members include; Craig Yapp, Fabiola Hamdan, George Kamperschroer and Wesley Sparkman.

We are proud of Nia and look forward to her participation on this very important City Commission.
