Kathie Rasmussen Women’s Theater (Krass) presents “Body Awareness,” by Pulitzer prize winner Annie Baker, directed by Jeanne Leep
March 23-April 7. Tickets $20 with lower-price performances (see Bartelltheatre.org)
Cast: Samara Safarik as Phyllis, Jamie England as Joyce, Mark Kennedy as Jared, and Bob Curry as Frank
About the play
It’s Body Awareness Week on a Vermont college campus. Phyllis, the organizer, and her partner, Joyce, are hosting one of the guest artists in their home: Frank, a photographer famous for his female nude portraits. Phyllis is furious at his depictions, but Joyce is intrigued. As the couple bickers, Joyce’s adult son, who may or may not have Asperger syndrome, struggles to express himself.
Chicago Theater Beat – Highly Recommended
“…compelling ideas and vivid characters. If you leave Body Awareness mulling the implications of the dreaded male gaze, well, good for you. But for all its feminist theory and academic setting, Body Awareness is mostly a fine slice of storytelling.”
Tickets: bartelltheatre.org or 608-661-9696 / $20. Reduced prices on Wednesday, Thursdays, and for groups.
